How to create a Web Site
For Your School
Steps:
1. Plan your Web site
2. Create the web pages
3. Transfer the files to the school Board server
a. Obtain the correct user name and password for your school.
1. Planning School Web Sites
Content
Should have value to others in your school and in your community
Promote ownership by enlisting the help of others
Make every page count
Limit information about students
Don’t Be In a Hurry!
Start small
One page at first
Add material to your site gradually
We will not activate the link until you are ready
Audience
Define one or more specific audiences for your site.
– Students
– Teachers and Administrators
– Parents
– A specific, special-interest group
– Example: Sports, 4-H
Create material targeted specifically at the selected audience.
Describe links so that visitors have a clear idea about what's at the other end.
Do not have visitors follow too many links to get to the "meat."
Include navigational links on every page
Graphic Design
Be sure that all the pages have coherence.
Do this by repeating:
design elements
backgrounds
page layouts
navigational elements.
Limit the number of animations on a page to allow for slower home computers
School Page Topics
Statistics, Staff, Philosophy
Handbook, Newsletter, School Reports
Schedules, Holidays
Student Work, Classroom Pages
Sports, Clubs

Web sites are actually a collection of files. The HTML files are actually the text of your page along with directions that tell a internet browser how to display the graphics.
